This cigar tells the story of some of my favorite tobacco in the world, a vintage cuban size & a nod to the artists who’ve helped me see the world differently.

As many of you know by now, Customs is the story of my journey in cigars. From cigar geek to curator to now blending cigars I’ve always dreamed of making. The blend you have in your hands was at the very top of my journal since 2015 when I first smoked a cigar coming out of the Aganorsa Factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. I’ll never forget finishing the cigar and just sitting there - almost giddy. I thought to myself - wow, that was different. That was unique - flavorful and special. Aganorsa tobacco made me think of cigars differently. And I was hooked.

This was a project I started with Terence Reilly [VP of Aganorsa] in the summer of 2020. I wanted to use my favorite wrapper [Corojo 99 Jalapa] in a slightly larger ring gauge [52] with the old school 109 cap. I wanted a sweet and spicy profile that highlights rich cinnamon notes, caramel and cocoa with a room note that would make anyone want to smoke cigars. A head turner if you will. A few rounds of blending and we landed on a blend that I think achieves all that. Its clean on the palate, nuanced, rich at times and just… classic.

The name Macasso comes from two of my favorite artists: Matisse & Picasso. Artists who pushed boundaries, turned heads, caused controversy and created unique art for the world. I remember standing in Paris at the Picasso museum last year, so wildly inspired by his work and dreaming up a way to share a tribute through cigars. Instantly, my mind went to Aganorsa and the tobacco they have that made me feel that same way when I first smoked a cigar from them. A little over a year since that moment and here we are - a masterpiece is in your hands.

I hope this cigar makes you think differently about tobacco and the flavors you are accustomed to. Enjoy this one slowly, retrograde and let the smoke sit over your tongue for a few seconds before pushing it out. I’m certain you’ll find what I did - art.
